What Clients of Speech Therapy Tacoma Are Saying

Sherri is an extremely knowledgeable, professional and effective speech therapist, as well as a warm and compassionate human being. I found her when looking for a way to help my brother, suffering from significant, stroke-related aphasia issues, receive services within his Adult Family Home setting. When I connected with her, we discovered she had evaluated him after his stroke when she worked in the Tacoma Multicare system! My brother and I had been impressed with her at that meeting, and remembered her. Long story short, we hired her and have continued to greatly appreciate her work over the past year.

Sherri completed a thorough preliminary evaluation as a first step. She went above and beyond to educate us about my brother's challenges and capabilities, and the possibilities and limitations of what her work with him might accomplish. We opted to hire Sherri to work with him in 10 weekly appointment blocks (offered as a discount package). She wrote up a detailed evaluation at the end of each 10 week block to keep us well-informed of her work and his progress.

During her months of working with him we have seen great progress in his ability to communicate with us, and in his ability to understand others. Though his brain trauma from the stroke was serious, his quality of life has been significantly improved both through Sherri's outstanding work as a therapist, and through her caring and respectful approach in her every interaction with him. I highly recommend Sherri, with no reservations whatsoever. She is a highly competent, imaginative, and compassionate speech therapist, and it has been a joy to my brother and his family to work with her.

“We were so blessed find Sherri during a Stroke Support group in Tacoma. She was my Dad’s saving grace, as we had recently been working with a company that was not effective. Sherri takes the time to get to know her clients and make them feel confident in their abilities. She was very patient and provides a ton of various ideas in working with people- even getting my dad to use a tablet (something he would never have done before). She uses her time with clients in a meaningful way, and leaves them with "homework" which was also helpful in keeping my dad on task with trying to get better. She is very flexible and honest which I REALLY appreciate. I would HIGHLY recommend Sherri to help your loved one with any of their speech needs. I am SO glad we found her!”

“Sherri gave me back my voice it’s that simple. She brought things out of me that I not heard in my 22 year trip with PD. Using the Parkinson’s Voice Projects Speak Out program they are a winning pair. But be warned if you sign up you better be truly committed because Sherri is in 110% and she will expect the same from you! Do you and your family a favor and try something that works, you won’t be sorry. I guarantee it!”

“My family and myself thank Sherri for her service during a difficult time in my life. Being a stroke survivor is a long process and Sherri was instrumental in my recovery! She definitely is compassionate and caring. When we first met I could barely get a understandable word out, two months later I was interviewed for a life changing job (which I received a offer letter) Sherri is definitely a God send! So if you’re in need of a speech therapist, look no further, you’ve found the perfect person in Sherri!”

“Sherri came to visit my husband to do a swallow exam and we learned a huge amount from her good education, with both visual and verbal examples. All the while she was professional, kind and so affirmative to my husband who has been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis since. Above all she was gracious and treated him with the dignity an elder of 81 deserves. She is actually an inspiration to me. I am a long time Chaplain with a major healthcare organization's Hospice and Palliative Care. She continually stayed focused on Alex, listened to his personal conversation. After she left we both commented over and over how much we appreciated her powerful presence, presentation and what we learned.”

"Sherri helped us manage my husband's transition "from feeding tube to real food" after his critical illness and two month hospitalization.  Sherri went above and beyond by calling me before our first meeting to get to know more about our situation.  She read all my husband's medical notes and was very well prepared when she met my husband for the first time.  Sherri brought tremendous positive energy to her visits with us.  She encouraged us and dispensed wise advice.  Sherri's years of experience provided an impresssive breadth of knowledge and made us very comfortable that she would guide us to a positive outcome.  Sherri followed up with emails between visits and was always available for my questions.  It was a pleasure to work with Sherri and a relief to have her as a resource during a difficult time."

"Sherri Drummond tailors her style of teaching to the person.  My daughter, a 40 year old stroke survivor with acute aphasia, still manifests her type A personality.  Sherri is able to accommodate my daughter's personality with challenging assignments and goals to be attained."

"I have a close relative who had a stroke and developed aphasia.  Prior to moving to Seattle, she had a highly considered speech therapist in another state who worked hard with her on enunciation and word recall.  But Ms. Drummond's approach has been much better in enabling the relative to communicate.  She encouraged the use of multiple tools to learn to communicate and it has improved our communication tremendously.  My review will necessarily fall short of expressing just how helpful she has been--suffice it to say that we are thrilled with the work she has done and is continuing to do."

“Sherri Drummond coming into our lives was absolutely instrumental in my husband's speech recovery.  Not only did she provide current and best practices in speech therapy, her knowledge of his specific and multiple disabilities were vast.  Her personal connections with others, top in their field, allowed for years of extended and specialized therapy for my husband.  She connected us with programs, universities, scholarships and best of all, friends!  She teaches with knowledge, grace and passion.  We were blessed by working with her, and we are blessed by still knowing her!”

"I live in another city from my mother, who is a patient of Speech Therapy Tacoma.  Before Ms. Drummond helped my mother, phone conversations were almost impossible.  With Ms. Drummond's help, I can maintain communication with my mother.  I am very grateful."
